This article is about Maria Mourani, the MP of the Bloc Quebecois, being expelled from the parties’ caucus over the critical comments that she made about Quebec’s proposed charter of values. The dispute was over the proposed partial ban on religious symbols and clothing. “The attack on religious icons was nothing less than the promotion of ethnic nationalism” is what Maria had to say about the ban. Daniel Paillé, who is the Bloc Quebecois party leader, could not deal with having a party member criticize the values in such way, so a video statement was sent out saying that Maria was ejected from the party. Maria did not want to comment since there will be more discussion of the topic on Friday, but she did say that it was a discrimination against minorities.

I think that the party is portrayed as “falling apart” or “having difficulties” because there is conflict between the MP and the party leader. This shows distrust between the members of the party, and this will cause the people that follow the party to doubt them as well. If the party members can’t trust each other, the public won’t want to trust the party since they won’t have a stable foundation to build their beliefs on. CTV Montreal wrote it, and most of them would follow the Quebecois so there should not be a biased with the writing, but overall it is not good publicity for the Bloc Quebecois.
